Our veggie box season runs from late spring (May) to Christmas. Each box includes a varied selection of fresh vegetables, fruit (soft and top), herbs, mushrooms, honey and eggs.
The produce in each box varies with the seasons, for example in May you’ll find asparagus and rhubarb while in December there will be sprouts and leeks. We produce everything that goes into the boxes on-site and do not buy in wholesale produce. Guilden Gate smallholding is no longer certified organic by the Soil Association but we do continue to follow the organic growing methods and principles.
In order to offer a flexible service rather than insisting customers have a box every week we harvest and make up the boxes every Friday and agree the date of your next box each Friday we see you. Our customers collect the boxes from the holding.
Each box contains a detailed listing and cost of the produce in the box and the season’s account to date. We aim to provide fresh produce at a reasonable cost and check our prices against the national organic box schemes and Tesco.
We know not everyone likes everything so we leave out two ‘personal dislikes’, aside from these the selection of fresh vegetables, fruit and herbs in each box is dependent on seasonal availability.
We want to create a box scheme that is yours as well as ours. We hope you will feel welcome to pop over to see the smallholding and visit your produce to see them growing! We also hope that you will always feel able to talk to us about the boxes and tell us what is good and what is not, what you like and what you don’t, what is expensive and possibly, what is too cheap! We will also try to grow some interesting produce that you might not be familiar with or might like to try.
We also offer home produced honey and woodland products as special additions to the boxes.
Please contact us or phone (01763) 243960 if you are interested in joining the scheme, there is currently a waiting list but we are happy to add your details to this list.
